Decor Trends

The ever-revolving cycle of interior design trends never stops. And yet, due to the slowdowns caused by the recent pandemic, this constantly changing whirlwind of colors, patterns, and styles has slackened markedly. A deceleration in the design world combined with a growing appreciation for personal décor touches makes it much easier for you to become your own interior designer. Here are five trends of what we project is on the horizon for 2023.

Mixing Styles

So called "true” décor styles are not as authentic as most people assume them to be; as most popular styles are actually a blend of other designs. The idea that everything must match is just plain wrong, and people are discovering that combining various styles is easier than they thought – which is why this is becoming more popular than ever.

The key factor in blending styles is working with a particular color palette. The tighter you keep the color spectrum, the more you can mix styles. If you keep your entire room in warm brown, you can mix Mid Century Modern with Modern Farmhouse. Whereas mixing light Oak with warm Cherry will only create disorder and lack cohesiveness.

Objects That Tell A Story

Chances are that you have a piece of furniture or décor in your possession that means something to you. Why not make that piece a prominent part of your style? Eclectic décor styles are quite common today; which allows you to make your own blend of styles, locales, and eras. This approach will create a much more genuine atmosphere that truly reflects who you are.

We’ve all been in homes where everything is decked out in the latest fashion. While it might look nice, there’s a certain blandness that goes along with that. To add flavor to your space, pick a piece that speaks to you and place that piece in the foreground of your room. It might be your grandma’s rocker, a piece of artwork from your trip to Europe, or a lamp that just says “this is me”. Whatever it is, place it in the foreground, not the attic.

Mid-Century Modern

What goes around, comes around. This popular saying is proven by the recent uptick in mid-century modern designs. The style started to gain momentum in the 1930s but had its peak in popularity in the 1950s and ‘60s. And now, 60 years later, it’s coming back again.

This style is all about simple lines and natural colors. Sleek lines are combined with bare-essentials functionality. At its core, every feature on a piece of mid-century modern furniture must serve a purpose. Nothing extra is added, and nothing is done just for embellishment.

Warmer Wood Tones

While cooler gray tones have been the order of the day for the past several years; this color is starting to lose its edge. No, gray is not going away! But there is a definite shift happening to the warmer end of the gray spectrum.

In addition to the warm gray shift, warm browns are becoming especially popular in wood finishes. A brown tone will make your home feel cozier and more inviting than the stark and commercial feelings that previously trendy, cooler gray tones evoke.

Personality Lighting

As part of a shifting focus to a décor style that matches your individual personality, one-of-a-kind lighting is moving to the forefront. Lamps are typically placed in a focal point of a room, so what better way to use that space than to have it feature a lamp that says something about who you are? Lamps come in more designs and patterns than ever before, so finding one that speaks to you is easier than ever.
